The message is NOT encouraging people too stay in abusive relationships
greskeneveland21 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I had to leave a review because the one review I saw that had a message was that this movie encourages people too stay in abusive relationships. That is not the case. The message is that it is up to the abuser to stop the abuse... Not for everyone around him or her to fix it for them.

The point in the terminology of 'break the cycle' is too point out that many abusers were abused themselves. This does not give them and excuse. They have to be willing to do the work to do better.

It is true that all of the relationships that were reflected on that got a second look a few months later had continued. 3 out of 4 of them had continued successfully. The people who were willing to change and put in the work were able to make their partner feel safe and appreciated. However, one of them did not change and the consequences were dire for him. In one of the successful relationships the partner even said she would have left him had things not improved.

That review tells me that the reviewer believes that if someone is in and abusive relationship and they don't leave it is their fault. It is *not* their fault. It isn't always that simple.

If you can leave an abusive relationship you Totally should. But if you can't... That doesn't mean you deserve it. I hope you got the help you deserve.

NO! NO! NO! WRONG DANGEROUS MESSAGE!
bronzesrv2 February 2021
This movie is very DANGEROUS! It encourages people to stay in abusive situationships and "tolarate" abusive behavior! This movie should be about BREAKING THE CYCLE, Not keeping it going!🙄

Once someone abuses you ONCE, don't give him or her a chance to do it again! You NEED TO LEAVE PERMANENTLY! They will reoffend over and over until someone is comatose or dead. I'm not one for reverse abuse either, I notice there's a lot of man commenting on Amazon Prime, about it making it look like men don't matter. I disagree, I know some abusive women out there as well, and my opinion still stands, if you come across an abusive woman, get the hell away from HER too. I am a woman who was abused as a child and as an adult. And I say no to it 100%. This movie actually encourages women to stay with the man as long as they go to a domestic violence program, which to me is the wrong message to send. A lot of individuals go to these programs and learn nothing. I know this from experience as well. My mom stayed with her abusive husband our third step dad , and she would take us to meetings and they would go back home and do the same damn thing! It took for somebody to get shot and damn near killed before she finally left his crazy ass. Like I said if it happens once, get the hell out, especially when there's children involved. This movie is the wrong message to send. I gave it one star for the actors, hell, they have to work and they have to eat.
