What are you?
nogodnomasters5 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Tony (Lenny Thomas) and soon to be wife Brittney (DeShawn White) and her brother Kevin (Oghenero Gbaje) head up to a cabin rental by a lake during the off-season to meet her parents. They find everyone dead except for one man who shot them claiming they were demons. They don't know what to believe.

It was an interesting tale with fair characters. Good ending. No real closure. No book of the dead.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity .

Poor production
germanjonz14 September 2021
If this movie was written, shot, edited and directed by 15 year old's, then good job. I can't understand how any serious movie producers would make the choices they did, regarding story (yawn!) and editing (are we in the 80's?).

I'm giving 3/10 stars but only for the acting. They won't win an Oscar for this performance, but the relatively good acting made the movie bearable, and we actually watched it until the end.

Inner truth
kosmasp21 October 2021
There are certain themes and plot points that are interesting here. Actually I would even argue that the movie or the idea behind it, is more than worthwhile. Having said that though, the realization does not match the goals this set out to accomplish.

One of the things that will bug you, is how characters react and act ... especially when it comes to cell phones and their ... well use. Very frustrating to say the least. And not making much sense - except to keep the suspense and story going. Add to that some unconvincing scenes ... and ups and downs when it comes to acting (choices) ... Again, a shame, because there was a good movie here ... maybe some will still see it "shine" through.

This risible nonsense scores a mind boggling 83% on RT
sommiewoman31 August 2021
Like quite a few other people, it is easy to get sucked into the ratings game and base a film on its latest score.

With that in mind, an 83% score on RT would appear to be a good starting point, right?

Wrong.

This film was a cheaper-than-cheap amateur fest with a cast that appear to have been plucked out of the nearest drama school's reject cupboard. There's no story, no tension, no scares, and I reckon that even the 3 main characters were trying their very best not to burst out laughing throughout.

So you have to ask yourself how and why this garbage gets an eye watering 83% score on another well known review site. If critics cannot be honest in their appraisal of a film, then they are demeaning themselves, the movie industry, and most obviously the viewing public.

Don't waste your time - absolute sh**
contactmaz18 August 2021
Not much to see here... except cr*p acting, ridiculous lineup of pathetic people spewing out a laughable dialogue... and an absolute 'waste of time' plot.

Really guys, don't bother, you'll thank me. Really astounded that it's currently a 5.8!

Halfway through this boring trash and literally NOTHING happens. Fast forward 25 minutes and still boring as hell. Avoid at all costs or you can watch and see exactly what I mean.

Terrible film - acting from 3 main characters not bad, but the rest were awful and worst storyline ever.

Waste of time
DarianFisher29 August 2021
The storyline really has potential but the script was horrendous. Whoever wrote these lines for the actors should stay away from script writing forever. I can't really blame the actors for their poor performances since they were handed such a bad script and the plot was just poorly executed. Please don't waste your time unless you have no life.

Uncertain film plotting
jmbovan-47-16017320 April 2022
So, annoying people are heading to a cabin for the weekend with the parents (brother and sister plus her fiancee). When they arrive, a stranger claims that people are being possessed by demons. And that's about as far as the movie progresses. Annoying characters and an unresolved plot. Ho hum.

Full-fledged horror despite tiny budget, limited cast and small-scale location. Kept us interested throughout full running time
JvH4823 April 2021
Saw this at the Imagine filmfestival 2021, usually in Amsterdam but now 100% online. We saw demonstrated that it IS indeed possible with a tiny budget, a limited cast, and a small-scale location, to create a full-fledged Horror movie that kept us interested throughout the full running time. Lots of developments, turns of events and (counter)accusations. Tension is maintained as we are continuously in doubt who is who with a possibly hidden agenda, and who is telling the truth. Even about the dead we are unsure they are really really dead and won't pop up later.

Its initial appearances of a traditional slasher movie may mislead you. It made a commendable effort to move away from the known clichés. There is a role mixture, where killings are not confined to one single protagonist.

I was not that much focused on racial issues, but maybe I'm not "woke" enough to see it, even after various recent (anno 2021) events. The Q&A after the screening clarified this topic very well. One may see similarities with the famous Get Out (Jordan Peele 2017) but there are major differences, so no imitation attempt. Moreover, this movie was completed before Get Out was released.

Bloody Wreck
jeroduptown22 December 2021
When the vacationers find everyone dead on their side of the lake and trap the suspected killer, they find out there's more to it than murder. The possession aspect could've been cool, but the lines and acting were just so bad.

Explaining how the plot is utterly nonsensical:
damientoye29 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm halfway through and I fully understand the criticism of this movie. The plot is absolutely laughable.

It begins when a man, his partner and little brother show up at some holiday cabins out in the sticks.

They discover a vast mass shooting with no survivors at the cabins. Instead of immediately calling the cops while fleeing, they decide to investigate (unarmed)? The younger brother finds a body with an apparently fully loaded 44 magnum and ignores it?

The killer then arrives, holds them at gunpoint while raving that he killed the people because they are demons. He takes and smashes their phones, but then gets captured when they offer a beer and he lowers his gun and approaches like an idiot to take it? They beat him, take his shotgun and lock him in the cellar of their cabin, but after some time and following a loud disturbance from downstairs find he has been killed by an unknown 3rd party.

The highway is 2-3 miles away through the woods and their vehicle is out of commision, so they they decide to wait the night instead of fleeing on foot -even though they are young and in shape, are armed and all have flashlights?

They also turn on all the lights at their cabin for any assailant to see from miles away and decide to go to sleep?!

Next they find a suspicious woman lurking outside their window claiming shes a survivor. She says she escaped in to the woods, but came back (knowing there was a mass shooter at large?) because the woods were scary? She says she has no phone. The younger brother then searches her purse when shes out of the room and finds a phone. She says she thought she had dropped it, tells them off, stops them calling the cops and demands the phone saying it is hers and she will make the call. They give her the phone? She goes outside to make the call. The younger brother follows her and gets found wrestling with her on the front lawn. Her phone is smashed. The younger brother says shes not who she appears to be and caught her as she was smashing the phone. The strange woman says that the brother attacked her. So the older man and his partner punch the younger brother and accuse him of acting crazy, whilst the strange woman walks back into the house where they left the shotgun when coming outside?

At this point the movie is becoming unwatchable nonsense!

Engaging and thought provoking
pastorgarysaunders7 September 2021
I'm not usually a thriller/horror fan, but I thought this simple indie flick was awesome. The quiet, classic setting, the small but excellent cast, some well-timed jump-scares and a great soundtrack combined to provide a synergistic delight - much better than the sum of its parts. Reflecting after watching, I found there had also been some deeper themes. How had race played out, and male/female roles? How had paranoia unfolded, as the players (and the viewers) sought to identify and label the "good" and "evil" characters? And why did I so yearn for a clear, clean ending in a movie where those values were so scarce? Hats off to these indie filmmakers - keep it coming.

Getting A Bad Rap For Ambiguous Ending?
lynnspook12 July 2022
I've read the reviews on here, and respect that everyone isn't going to have the same experience when viewing a movie. I think this was a pretty good effort, and quite suspenseful. The supporting cast was supposed to be over the top, a point I believe some may have missed. It keeps you guessing, wondering what each person's motive may be. I have to admit that the ending was frustrating, but you're left to come to your own conclusions. I've watched some pretty awful horror "movies," and I use that term loosely. This one kept me interested all the way through until the end. I still have many unanswered questions. As maddening as that is, I still enjoyed this one.

Good production value and good acting but they were ridiculously stupid as far as characters go
cary-708006 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I know I'm missing some but the preface this I really enjoyed us and get out and black noir and I really root for the black horror genre but this family was ridiculously stupid just made the worst choices I've ever seen in any horror movies pretty much ever since Friday the 13th so it's kind of embarrassing but they made them also dumb so very very dumb.
