Good start

Good start from one of the best series ever...at least for me. Uhtred and the saxons are back and intend to make this the best season so far. Not as good as the first episode from the first season, this was a solid start showing that Netflix was not kidding when took responsability for the show. Concerning the music and the photography same as always...pure art.

It literally has everything you want in The Last Kingdom. Emotion, blood, music and amazing performances. It has everything to be the best season yet and I'm so ready!

Season 3 is all that was hoped for.

The bottom line is unparalleled acting by every single cast member. I have never seen its equal.

Very well made guilty pleasure

Warning: Spoilers
Last Kingdom is a guilty sin. Perhaps the most enjoyable aspect is knowing the BBC looked down on it and abandoned it, and it is now an even bigger hit. The more I sense the BBC was embarrassed at the popular success of a balls to the wall violent, ribald show, the less PC the message that hordes of "settlers" are not exactly benign unless forced to accept the poltical culture and other aspects of extant culture, the more I like it.

No sure why IMDB is showing all but S3 E1 as unaired, and won't allow reviews of each of the episode of Season 3 which I would rate from seven to ten for an average of nine. Netflix allowed streaming of the entire season right from the first day.

OK now for the short review: Certainly the theme of Uhtred in and out of trouble with Alfred is a bit redundant and predictable, almost funny in how this happens over and over, but this is part of the dual loyalty facing the character. Of course he's got to kill a priest/monk -- again. Same with the new but cookie cutter cast of Dane leaders. The Danes did in fact keep coming for hundred of years. I think this season handles it best.

Speaking of danes, the one part of the show that took slight notch down was the Danish leaders. Ubba and Gutthram and Erik and Sigefrid were so much cooler than the three losers leaders on season three. If I was going to pillage for a living it would be with the Erik and Sigefrid and not with Bloodhair or the new crew.

Speaking of Danes, comparisons are often made to AMC Vikings. That show is has great set piece battles, and is a lot of fun, but to be frank. terrible lead acting in comparison to Last Kingdom. Moreover I prefer the shouting in Last Kingdom to the weird whispering in Vikings. The leads on Vikings are not actors, they seem like models. Now is Alexander Dreymon a great actor? Nah. But he certainly is a more than competent actor. Kingdom has no cringeworthy acting while Vikings has plenty.

BTW audience response is so strong already that Netflix announced a couple of days ago that they have greenlighted season 4.

Enjoy this show for what it is, an unapologetic middlebrow guilty pleasure rooted in pulp fiction. A man's Outlander. And well made in every respect.

The feels
Calicodreamin14 November 2021
Well I definitely found myself in the feels for the loss of a great character. The battle scene was much of the same, no one else can plan a battle only Uhtred.

Book 5 Condensed into one episode.....
mesut002421 November 2018
For someone who has been reading the books Ive been disappointed at the way this series has been condensed into a few episodes per book source material. The books are rich in story telling, with in depth characters. This episode basically rushes all of book 5 to the end, in 50 minutes. It feels rushed and as a result the story and plethora of characters seem superficial.

How to ruin the start of a season
ian-2437625 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Unnecessary over the top violence. Stabbing someone repeatedly in the eyes, drinking blood, really? S1 & 2 have been great but if this is what S3 is resorting to I'm tempted to leave it there.

Netflix May Of Ruined This Great Series
johndoemofo22 November 2018
I'm 15 minutes into this episode and there has been only 40 seconds without loud annoying background music. I can't stand it. If the rest of the season is like this i'm done, i'll just ignore the rest and keep Season 1 & 2.
