Well marketed, but the film falls flat
ScoobySnacks6612 May 2019
This film was an exercise in frustration. It had all the makings of a blockbuster: starring SNL alums, written, directed and produced by SNL alums, great location, fun 50th birthday concept, Jason Schwartzman as the weird houseboy, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler teaming up... but after watching it we were left feeling disappointed because of so much wasted potential. The film wasn't that funny, we only really laughed a few times, the cast were mostly shrill and annoying stereotypes we've seen so many times before and it was hard to care about any of the characters. It wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen but I would never watch it again and I don't recommend it either, not even if you're a wine lover.

Corked in wine country
reggielevack18 May 2019
I just watched wine country and was so looking forward to seeing it. I love all the women in it. I hung in there hoping and praying and wishing and putting it out to the universe for it to get better, get funny, get a plot, give Jason Swartzman something to do. But the universe failed me. If you can watch till the end you will get a small reward as there is a great joke delivered by Ana Gastmyer's character that did make me LOL .. a rarity in this film. Still love all the ladies but this one was corked!

Forced Female Grown Ups movie
vandrist10 May 2019
Half the cast of Bridesmaids, but a Netflix knock off. Pretty much like a grown ups version but with women, minus the kids. Much like modern Adam Sandler comedies, this leaves a lot to be desired. This movie just tries too hard and it's really hard to relate to any of the characters. There are some good moments but it's a tough watch overall.

Very Disappointing
Emma_Marie2911 May 2019
With a cast like that I expected more. I kept watching with the hope that it would get better. It never did. Netflix is pushing out crap this past year.

Doesn't work as a comedy
Gordon-1110 May 2019
This film tells the story of six friends who go to Napa Valley for a holiday.

The scenery and the house are both beautiful. However, that's pretty much the end of the good points. The pace is very slow, and the jokes are not funny. The art show scene falls completely flat and is completely lost on me. The characters aren't having fun, and the viewers aren't either.

I actually liked it
siskoeveliina10 May 2019
I can't believe this is getting such bad reviews. the SNL women are pure gold and I loved how there was a little bit of drama between the friends but that they didn't overdo it. It's raunchy, but not gross. The characters were relatable and flawed. Overall I thought it was just a nice feel-good movie.

Take A Nap Instead
phillipbrock12 May 2019
This movie couldn't possibly be more boring if it tried. Nothing happens, there's no actual storyline. It seems like a group of friends sitting around writing a first draft of a movie they want to make. The entire thing is a plotless, pointless, boring, unrelated batch of scenes Frankensteined together. What a waste of the time and talents of a great cast. Sorry, Amy; this goes in the "Fail" column.

Don't get the hate.
jlindquist-4479617 May 2019
I mean it's not the greatest film of all time but it's really not that bad. It doesn't deserve the hate it's getting on here. The cast is very strong. The jokes are decent, albeit a tad bit predictable. It's worth the time to watch it.

More like whine country
lucasrcatlin15 May 2019
Six women go to Napa to treat working class people like trash, get drunk and bicker. Unlikable characters & slow story. Not worth watching unless you hate yourself.

Raise your glasses to the ladies of SNL
tin-B17 March 2022
It's a shame my one little vote can't lift this movie's score to the 6.5 it should be. Most complaints are that they weren't funny enough, there wasn't enough action and goofy events and crazy fun. I'm so glad there wasn't. This movie script created a group of real women who are each having a problem or two that they are not dealing with well, and covering it up. They are funny but not hilarious. Do any of us have hilarious crazy fun every time we are with our friends once we hit middle age? It's real. And it's got a good message. Just watch it and stop expecting every movie to be a dang blockbuster hit and crying that it's not worthy if it isn't. Enjoy.

Literally painful
geeboy-4885411 May 2019
I could only make it through like 15/20 minutes of this since it was just so incredibly bad. Of course there are a lot of good actresses in the movie but with bad writing it really doesn't make a difference. I really don't understand a lot of the reviews on here that say stuff like "Lighten up its not that bad" but in my opinion when you have countless tv shows and movies at our fingertips these days the bar has been drastically raised so I no longer will waste 90 minutes of my time on a so-so movie...and this is way below so-so.

Don't go to McDonald's for Filet Mignon
simon-pickersgill7710 May 2019
This is a simple, unpretentious comedy about middle aged women getting drunk and acting inappropriately. Don't read anything more into it and you won't be disappointed. I laughed because I could identify with it, but I probably wouldn't have found it as funny otherwise. Maybe this one is for the 40/50+ viewers.

Really disappointing
sclafunk14 May 2019
I didn't think Amy P would make something so unoriginal. There really isn't much of a storyline and honestly most of the jokes derive from making fun of itself for being exactly as predictable as you think it's going to be. It has about 17 too many dancing to cheesy old school song dancing scenes. If you took those out it would honestly be under an hour long. U can also tell so many scenes were just the Actresses fooling around and improv-ing, but not it a way that fits within the movie or even the characters. U can clearly feel them fooling around out of character. There were a couple funny jokes, but the whole thing feels like Amy taking care of her friends and paying them to hang out in Napa. I dunno, I was really disappointed in the lack of creativity here, and for all the talent in the acting there's a whole lot of phoning it in. It's like the movie cane second to a bunch of middle aged women having an excuse to hang out. Compare this to parks and rec and tell me it's even close to the quality. That was so well done, and this simply isn't.

Cringing
chaosrachel-9519019 May 2019
Unfunny even for the over 40 crowd. Watched with a group of women with various of ages from 35-80, not one laugh. Midway around forty minutes in we looked for something else on Netflix. Love Amy and company, but yikes.

"The alcohol just let it out"
BrunoRatesTheMovies8 February 2022
Some movies are just meant to be pure escapism, and this really did it for me. The girls were each amazing in their own way and I love wine tasting and day drinking! The perfect getaway when you can't get away. It was the exceptional comedic timing you'd expect from the likes of Poehler, Rudolph and Fey.

Weird, awkward, and painfully unfunny
peterkowalski11 May 2019
There is a saying in Slavic culture: "where are 6 cooks, there is nothing to eat". The cooks are skilled here; you can't state the obvious. And one would think that even in the worst scenario, that would be enough; their skills, talent and comedy would make any idiotic script fly. One would be wrong, because in "Wine Country" absolutely nothing happens. There are no thrills thrilling, no jokes landing, no plot happening. The little attempts at making the story happen ends up making up no sense whatsoever; the comedy is virtually non existent. "Wine Country" is working overtime to become the worst movie of 2019... the cooks might need a break from cooking. And definitely no more wine for them.

Well worth a watch
TimelessSelf1 October 2021
Listen. I'm sat here looking at the opening credits wondering why I'm watching this film for the third time in three years... I cannot believe it was released in 2019, I watched it twice in that year and now in 2021... the last film I watched more than once is The Imitation Game, so this must be good right. Having recently watched Parks and Rec, as well as every Amy Phoeler thing I can find, I wanted to watch this film again with her other work in mind.

Anyway, you don't need anymore of my life story- I think this is a funny film made by good, creative people.

Not funny at all! How do you have an entire SNL cast of ladies and not a single laugh...it was so dull and boring. I expected more.

So much fun!
starplatinum871 June 2019
I loved this movie. So much fun. All of these ladies, their personalities and their humor work really well together. Maya Rudolph is definitely a highlight, but they're all great. A laid back, goofy comedy that I think really gets to at real things people go through as they get older. Great stuff.

Lazy lazy lazy... I think I could write a better film
moviemom2314 May 2019
This reminds me of the Seth Rogan/James Franco & crew fiascos that were so God-awful. The End comes to mind. I had high hopes for a fun little.chick flick, but the second Tina Fey's character showed up, the writing was on the wall. The actors don't even seem to be trying.. Do they think they can just rest in the laurels? It's sad because the scenery is beautiful, the premise could've been a lot of fun, like a female Hangover perhaps? But no. And the Hillary Clinton mention was just...ugh... FFS, really? Why must Every Damn movie continue to force- feed this crap, why? Lesbians, non-genders, millennials are just thrown in towards the end as an afterthought. Tina, if you really want to address trans and alternative genders and lifestyles, why not really commit and make one of the girlfriends trans? Ugh, lazy writing, dull, and most of all a waste of resources.

Fun, lighthearted, relatable, and not for everyone!
jessica-brawn11 May 2019
The majority of the negative reviews for this come from men named George or Peter who expect aging women to be prim and proper, with their graying hair tied back into a birds nests, wearing mock turtlenecks and gently sipping on a maximum of one glass of wine. This movie connects with those of us who don't give a $@&? about that.

I found this to be relatable and lighthearted. I don't think it was meant to be a blockbuster of laughs every 5 minutes. It's geared toward women who are struggling and aging and not sure where the $&@? their lives go after "a certain age". It's about girl fiends who have grown together and apart and together again. I

Grab a glass of wine (or a box - who cares?!), get your Napa buzz on, lighten up, and enjoy this piece of gold from the SNL ladies.

Lighten Up
kfp200610 May 2019
I'm glad I decided to watch this movie. Sure it's not Oscar material, but how many comedies are? It's simply a movie about a group of middle age female friends getting together to reconnect, drink, and have fun. Along the way they reveal personal truths they couldn't face alone, so they face them together. If you can relate to the characters, you'll like this movie. If you can't relate, there's always Power Rangers or Pokemon for you.

The title should be Whine Country
lolosh13 May 2019
No real story line or plot, not funny, no point or aim, in great need of editing (soo many long, boring, slow moving scenes which aren't needed), all the characters are cardboard cut-outs... Just really terrible.
