Missed something like this for a long time
mersedehghasemzadeh22 November 2018
Finally Barry spent some time with Caitin and Cisco. Since long time ago they're just keep matching him with Iris so they can prove us they're great together. And it's been awkward . Last episode I was thinking does he even know what's going on with Caitlin ?! Does he even care about them anymore?! I really did miss them hanging around. I hope thay give us more of this.

The Icicle Cometh!
sscialli21 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It's almost sad to know that Barry Allen, The Flash , couldn't be prepared to whisk away Caitlyn, Cisco, and himself before a single ice crystal left the mouth of the Icicle!? Didn't they just discuss the fact he was trying to suppress his human side!? That is the moment of sadness for me, Flash rarely was caught so unaware in the comics. I mean they just discussed Caitlyn's father was evil! Tell me it isn't so Flash?

6 Straight Solid Episodes
TheStormBolt21 November 2018
Every episode of Season 5 has been amazing and this episode is no different. As predictable as it may have been at times, it was still amazing to watch it unfold. Love the mysteries, especially with Cicada. I hope Flash keeps this up.

I feel the haters of Season 5 so far are those who wish it was exactly like Season 1 was, or who after Season 4 believe the show is not improving. I'm seeing reviews claiming this to be the worst episode of the season (or even series) so far when sure, people are entitled to their own opinion but do they even remember some of the worst episodes ever like Girls Night Out?

BEST EPISODE SO FAR THIS SEASON!!
KM170121 November 2018
Season 5 of the Flash has been rocky at best, there's been many good pieces but lots of poor execution and yet this episode may be a sign the show is finally shaking the shackles of its previous shortcomings. While a little rushed at the beginning the three plot lines in this episode smoothed together seemlessly by the end and guest star Kyle Secor was a welcome addition. He played spectacularly off the regular members of the cast, especially Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow) who he shared the most screen time with. Panabaker shined in this episode showcasing a vast emotional range with plenty of heart, as did co-stars Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramon) and Grant Gustin (Barry Allen "The Flash"). Those three actors have been heralded for their chemistry together in the past and once they found their footing again in this episode there is little question as to why. Season 1, which was centered around these three characters, is considered the best in the series and in this episode it seems the show may be getting back to the roots that made it so great. That along with the spinkles of moments with the season's big bad made for a captivating hour in television!

Other honorable mentions in this episode were Hartley Sawyer (Ralph Dibny) and Danielle Nicolet (Cecile Horton) as an unexpected comedy duo with great physical humor (partially due to their height differences) as well as Jessica Parker Kennedy (Nora West-Allen) and Candice Patton (Iris West-Allen) who continue to play off each other well as their character's begin to form more of a bond. And while I am still unsure what to think of Tom Cavanaugh's new Sherlquoe Wells his acting is still some of the strongest on the show.

Overall I loved this episode and it was the best the Flash has had in quite some time. Definitely worth the watch!

This Original Team Flash team up was long overdue.
c-t-c-g22 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is the first episode of season 5 I watched. It didn't only provided satisfactory answers about Caitlin's origins, a storyline that deserved justice after being sidelined by the writers, but also a long overdue Original Team Flash team up. Even the episode mostly focused on the sci-fi aspects, revisiting Barry, Cisco and Caitlin's bond reminded me of why I loved the show in the first place. Cisco and Caitlin were at odds and Barry and Cisco had different ideas of how to deal with the situation, but the input they provided each other, with Cisco opening Barry's eyes and Barry, consequently, helping Caitlin to open hers.

Kyle Secor was compelling as Icicle and I am glad he got away at the end of the episode, because it doesn't only mean we haven't seen the last of him, but it also provides Caitlin a goal and a shot at a longer storyline that hopefully won't be abandoned this time.

Warning: Spoilers
The dynamics from early seasons return in the "a" plot if this episode. The episode was a breathe of fresh air from the usual barry, iris, nora seperated from caitlin, cisco. I was excited at the return of killer frost and hope the show will continue to keep the dynamics balanced and not repeat season 4s mistake.

Amazing!!
tracy_patrbv21 November 2018
It was the episode the show needed to show the fandom they do know what sells, not only did we get amazing moments with the original team flash. Caitlin, Cisco and Barry. We also got to see an episode focused on the fan favorite female that not only proves she can be smart, sweet and badass on her own field but that has soo much more worth exploring stories. If the show continues this road having the original trio share more scene without others on the way. To bring back the season 01 barry allen who actually cared for hes friends and mostly give starlabs back to the actual experts who dont deserve to be made dumb to make others look smart . This show may be worth saving . Cant wait to see more of the trio on their own and more of Killerfrost and Caitlins story

Had potential, but fell short
dcolyer22 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I was cautiously hopeful about this episode when the plot synopsis and teasers were released. After learning who the writers of the episode were, my hope was somewhat diminished because I have little faith in this new crop of writers that The Flash production team has employed over the last two seasons. Man have they produced some clunkers! Ultimately, as with most of this season's and last season's episodes, I was disappointed one more time. It's getting old. I now believe this show will never be restored to its former glory unless a miracle somehow happens and the show brings back the production team of David Nutter, Andrew Kreisberg (which won't happen because of the harassment thing), Aaron Helbing, JJ Makaro, Ralph Hemecker, Steve Shill, Brooke Roberts et al., all of whom had a big hand in making seasons 1 and 2 the wonderful seasons they were.

The Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost angle was an interesting plot for an episode and I hoped the writers would be able to nail it, to bring back that same electricity from the first two seasons of this show. They missed the mark by far, despite making a decent attempt to do so by reuniting Barry, Cisco, and Caitlin (The Flash's "Holy Trinity") for the primary focus of the episode (which was the highlight of the episode).

There is no doubt that those three actors have enormous chemistry with each other, and their presence together on the screen can muscle even a poorly written episode (like this one) into a decent episode. Their individual acting chops, their respective charismas, and their energy together just mesh so well that it's easy to see why this show soared in its first season, the incredible writing of that season notwithstanding.

The primary plot was an excellent idea, but it was not at all executed well in writing. To me, the revival of Killer Frost and the retconned Killer Frost origin story seemed to be forced as a means of over-correcting for the poor writing of season 4, during which the Thinker was central to Caitlin seemingly losing her Killer Frost persona forever. Danielle P. is a wonderfully talented actor and she was allowed to shine in this episode, but the story seemed to focus on the mechanics of plot execution rather than the more personal side of the story. It could have been so much more powerful.

As with last season and this season, the producers and the writers of the show seem hellbent on trying to make the show a pseudo-comedy at times with forced humor that most of the time just doesn't work and is more successful at making me cringe rather than laugh. The Cecile/Ralph subplot fell into this area. Much of it was just painful to watch. I suppose the producers and writers think these scenes are funny, but all they do for me is induce eye-rolling and sighs.

The Iris/Nora/Wells subplot also fell into this category, despite the positive aspect of this subplot being Iris and Nora's attempts to bond. I was glad to see the bonding as opposed to the friction, but the cartoonish humor scenes just don't work for me. Cartoons and comic books are two different things, and this seems lost on the show's current production team for the most part.

The musical score also contributes to the "forced humor" aspect of this episode and the other episodes of this season where we saw the same kind of lame, forced humor. The music for these forced-humor scenes is way too over the top and it's like the show is really trying to convince us we're supposed to be laughing. During most of these scenes, the music sounds as though it's for an episode of a Scooby-Doo cartoon.

The jury is still out on the Cicada angle. I dig Chris Klein. I like him in the role. I think the digitally slowed down version of his voice designed to make him sound scary and intimidating is over the top; it does not capture the same intensity that Zoom's voice-over or even Reverse-Flash's voice-over had. I will withhold final judgment on the Cicada character until this thing plays out some more.

The attempt by the show's production team to power down Barry and make him seem almost inconsequential on his own show at times is pretty irritating. Last season he was defeated episode after episode. This year, the production team took another route: Let's not have him be defeated every episode; let's just have someone else with less power and abilities save him in every episode. Smdh.

I wish I had more positive things to say, but this is my true assessment of this episode. In summation, it had great potential, but aside from the Barry-Cisco-Caitlin chemistry and onscreen power, it just missed the mark. Sometimes it barely missed, but other times it missed by far.

My grade: C

My score: 7/10

Finally scenes between the base trio. Barry is so much interesting with Cisco and Caitlin. We explore the origins of Killer Frost and finally we have answers. Cecil / Raph a good idea to see other duos. And the Cicida investigation continues to advance

Gelling the DC Universe as one cohesive unit!
asb_deutsch22 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Finally, we get to see Snow's father. Their chemistry was quite nice. Like Avengers: Infinity War, the characters were separated which gives room for more character development.

The first half showed some scenes from Terminator 2 (hand-swords) and Mr.Freeze (Reference). Not wise as the audience has already seen it and it is better for the scriptwriters to be more creative and carry the momentum further.

My ratings (based on what I marked on IMDb): Season 1: 200/23 = 8.69; Season 2: 193/23= 8.23; Season 3: 188/23= 8.17; Season 4: 146/23= 6.65 and Season 5= 41/6= 6.83

The OTF is back! And they are amazing!
aneesha-1458322 November 2018
The chemistry between barry, Cisco and Caitlin is so beautiful to see on screen. Cisco being an amazing brother to Caitlin and Barry being a wonderful bestfriend to Caitlin was the best part of the episode other than KillerFrost being back and looking FANTASTIC! It has been long since we have seen them three get together just them after season2 so it was really great to see them again. They were the reason i fell in love with the show. Their friendship is so pure and the characters indivitually and together are so smart and adorable it feels almost real, their characters. The acting was that good. So grateful to have them back together and hope they keep it up. And please could iris get a job as a reporter instead of writing on the blog so she can have her own storyline without depending on barrys storyline so much. It feels as though those two are never apart and i get that thry are married but a good marriage shouldnt depend so much on each other not in these aspects! Iris seems to have no friends or a storyline outside of barry. Barrys wife barrys friends barrys job barrys this and barrys that, its sad. The actress has so much potential and the representation is necessary for young viewers everywhere. So please give her an independent storyline on the show.

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: Icicle Cometh
lbramson14 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Season 5's biggest problems: boringness and mellow drama are cranked up to 11. Caitlin meets her father, surprise, surprise, he's an evil ice wizard. I don't understand the widespread love for this episode. I get that it develops Caitlin's character further, but that's the only thing of interest here. Most of it is way too boring, predictable, and mellow dramatic for its own good. Wow. I wonder who the Icicle character is. Oh my god, it's her father. I could have never seen that coming. Aside from development for Caitlin and some funny Cisco lines, this episode is honestly kinda boring.

6/10-Meh😐

Naive or just stupid?
s-t-t-f2 November 2019
Just as Oliver Queen´s constant doom and gloom and constant self blaming is getting annoying and tiresome. So is Barry´s constant naivety on the brink of stupidity.

Barry just never learns and I think it´s ruining the show.

If you love seasons 1 and 2, you´ll love it!! The best episode since 3x07. It has a lot of original team Flash moments and the acting of Danielle Panabaker is the best part, she makes you feel as if you were there. I missed episodes like this one.

Great Episode!
beatriz_areli21 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It's about time to have an origin story of Caitlin / Killer Frost. It was so fun and great to see Caitlin, Barry and Cisco working in this case felt like Season 1.

In some ways, the writers pull almost all the strings together, the ALS, her mother, the Icicle for me the only string left is Charlie (E2 Killer Frost Brother) but it was so awesome to come to this.

The Cecile and Ralph scenes where so great, it was funny. It's obviously difficult to fill the Joe part but this is a nice way of doing it.

+++ Killer Frost is back ++ Name's drops like Louis Lincoln and Mr.Freez and AGAIN Eobard!! ++ Caitlin, Cisco and Barry going out in a mission together + Ralph and Cecile funny scenes

  • This wells is awful, love Tom but they need to stop with the Wells
  • Cicada Storyline is not so interesting so far.

Killer Frost is one of the most interesting characters in this show and I'm glad she's back. She finally got an origin story and I really hope the writers keep developing it. Danielle, Grant and Carlos did an amazing job in this episode, as well as Kyle Secor. Congratulations :)

Danielle Panabaker's is given the spotlight.
cruise0128 June 2019
The Flash Episode 5.06 (3 out of 5 stars).

The episode follows Caitlin, Barry, and Cisco making a discovery about Caitlins father. Meanwhile, Iris and Nora are trying to investigate together. While, Cicada gets injured and is growing stronger than ever.

The episode is a little slow moving with the story still. Predictable surprises with characters appearing out of nowhere and becoming a villain. The episode is a little dull with the characters. There is a fun return of one characters powers. Otherwise, it was a decent episode.

We have finally got the original trio back & their dynamic is amazing. Much better than a superhero show being a family drama/soap opera where the hero is dumbed down for his wife and daughter. We need more episodes like this!

BEST EPISODE IN A LONG TIME
davedayscrewgirl2021 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This almost felt like an early season episode in its execution. Everything about it was perfect! The coming together of Original Team Flash, the dynamic Caitlin and her father, and of course THE RETURN OF KILLER FROST! Everything was just so well done it was the first time in a long time I 100% enjoyed an episode. Most who say otherwise are petty pressed WA stans who can't handle one episode NOT revolving around Iris even though they basically made the entire show revolve around her at this point 😒

I hate this Killer Frost retcon
hnt_dnl22 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Caitlin is actually my favorite character of the series, but I must be one of the few fans that actually despised this retcon of her powers being dormant since childhood. Are the writers just going to use the stupid Flashpoint subplot as a solution for EVERYTHING? In fact, Flashpoint is what started the downward spiral of this show. Everything just seems different, which works out as it's supposed to be a new timeline, but that lousy storyline somehow coincided with the bad writing that's taken place over the last 2 seasons, so previously smart characters (Caitlin, Cisco, Wells) have turned into stooges and previously dumb characters (Iris) have become smart. All of the amazingness that was the first 2 seasons have gone down the drain. And what's sad is this subplot feels simply like to give Caitlin purpose because fans are so enamored by her frozen alter ego. And what's really telling this season is that the show is all of a sudden divided into 2 camps: The WestAllens and Everyone Else. There is absolutely zero cohesion in the storytelling this season. Even with this filler Killer Frost stuff, it would be fine if the writing were better, but everything is just stale. Cisco is a sad vegetable this season, grieving the end of his overrated relationship with Gypsy. Sherloque and Ralph are there just to be there. And why does the show even need these new characters anyway since the writers are hellbent on shoehorning Iris into everything and have been trying to make her plot relevant since the Pilot? The writers might as well just dump the scientists and Ralph and change the name of the show to THE IRIS. And why is THE FLASH the most useless, sorry character on his own show? The guy loses EVERY episode and needs to be saved by Iris, their annoying speedster daughter, and in this one Killer Frost herself returned from obscurity. I remember back in Season 1 when Barry and Caitlin had all this tremendous chemistry, but the writers were afraid to act on it due to fan backlash and their interactions have gotten less and less with each passing season. When they finally talked face to face after a seeming eternity in this episode, it rung hollow mainly because Barry hasn't acted like he cares about anyone other than Iris or himself since the start of Season 3. So when he said that he and Cisco were Caitlin's family, I was like "yeah, CISCO is"! Barry is just a dude that aimlessly wanders around his own show until the writers decide to make him look plot relevant. Congratulations, Barry, you and Iris finally have something in common! LOL

BEST EPISODE OF THIS WHOLE SEASON
grazy_souzab21 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was amazing. At least Caitlin's storyline and Ralph and Cecile.

We finally meet Thomas Snow, a reunion that was heartwarming and adorable, Caitlin's happiness to see her dad alive and sickness free almost made me cry and all thanks to the amazing Danielle Panabaker who finally had a good scene to shine.

I also LOVED to have OTF back. It's amazing to watch Grant, Carlos and Danielle's chemistry, it's not forced, not unnecessary jokes or drama and no character is dumbed down or pushed aside to make other look better. All three work together amazingly and when the confrontations come, it's actually believable. I also LOVED how Cisco tried to reason with Caitlin and failed because he went the wrong way (buddy she missed her father for 20 years, you shouldn't tried to confront him like that) talked some sense to Barry who obviously was using his own feeling and let them cloud his judgment (also a prelude to future Nora storyline) and Barry talked to Caitlin, reasuring her that yes, all they wanted was her happiness, but her father was shady and because of how way he went about this, Caitlin actually managed to see the truth. This is the friendship we saw grow and be developed for 5 years and it's been missing since s3 which is ridiculous because no other comes close. Barry, Cisco and Caitlin complement each other and we should be constantly seeing this, not when the plot requires.

Kyle as Icicle was amazing and made me wish this had been told in s3 so we had a small Icicle and Killer Frost team up for a couple of seconds.

And we've come to the greatest moment, Frost is back. Tbh i didn't like that again we needed a pep talk to bring the powers out, that's a boring way to solve problems and the flash has used this for years, but anyway. Her coming back was amazing and Frost owned her powers and her strengths. Amazing !!! Also the duality of calling Thomas their father? I see this duo personally won't stay for long and finally they will merge into just Caitlin with powers.

Btw loved the new wig 💙

And I liked how they stopped Barry from saving the day in a plausible way. Last episode was just pathetic how they had to make iris "shine" (and later spend 918928 minutes with other characters praising her for nothing) yet here it's something we have seen before, Frost destroyed BlackFlash with Ice and Caitlin Frost kicked Bareys butt many times with her powers, so obviously Nora and Barry wouldn't be able to do anything, Cisco was already hurt and Ralph isn't immune to cold. See, actual believable things, shook how they only happen when it's not to make missy look good.

I also really liked how they explained what happened with DeVoe, we were so caught up with the idea of melting points powers that we forgot about the other meta. This could have been easily fixed with a small crossover with supergirl tho, but I'm accepting.

Overall, Caitlin's parts were amazing.

Cecile and Ralph were funny and efficient, even if I atill think he should've gone with OTF since he was the first to help Caitlin to search for clues about her father.

Nora, Iris and Sherloque was just boring and unnecessary. Nora is as shady as Thomas and she was clearly there to keep an eye on Sherloque, i never bought all this "I like mom now" storyline and all their scenes was just a waste of good screentime that should've gone to Caitlin's.
