Bailey Kershaw has just started her undergraduate career as a geology major at Berkeley. But when she returns home after her first semester, nothing from her studies of rock formations has prepared her for the rocky situation of her family.
Bailey's beloved dad was murdered as he was working on a high tech project for the genius Hiro Misaki, who was developing crypto currency in the form of an e-wallet. Brad Kershaw was a dreamer, but his daughter loved him because he was always waxing optimistic about the future.
When Bailey returns home, she is surprised that her mother Tina is engaged to be married to a fitness and health expert named Hugo. From the outset, Bailey believes that the oily Hugo is running a con, yet is unable to convince her mom to be on her guard.
The best scenes in the film are when the contentious Bailey confronts Hugo, grilling him with questions about his past that he cannot answer. Caught in the lie, Hugo now urgently seeks to find the password to the e-wallet, which was the true reason he began a relationship with the gullible Tina.
Ably assisted by her friends, Fee and Anders, Bailey succeeds in learning that Hugo was the man who murdered her father. The three amigos must now find a way to bust Hugo and retrieve the password. In that quest, Bailey is guided by the aura of love she received from her impractical but doting dad. In the end, love conquers all, in this case the special bonding of a father and daughter.
