My first impluse was to evoke the Chinatown model too. But if you want to see the real source for this story read the 2016 Josh Harkinson piece in Mother Jones Magazine. It's all there, without the Hollywood icing.

The first episode starts off very odd... witchcraft? Memory loss? Drug effects? I'm not sure where this will go but there are some holes to fill in that should be exciting. No sleep for me tonight!!

Don't get me wrong, the supporting cast has been great but season 3 adds three competent and engaging actors to support Thornton's ability. I put them in order of my preference, Graham Greene, Randy Quaid and Beau Bridges, who is at least half as good as his brother. I'm just on the first episode and know I shall enjoy seeing the rest of the season.

This season is almost the exact plot of the Neo Noir classic CHINATOWN. Has to do with water in the central California valley and how some farmers aren't getting enough while a few are getting plenty of what the others aren't getting enough of. So far, Dennis Quaid, as the bad guy, even when acting sympathetic has all the charm of Darth Vader while a horribly aged Griffin Dunne couldn't be more sympathetic and at the same time, pathetic. Anyhow, make note that this season IS Chinatown, Jake.

Thornton is town, figuring out what is going on with the water supply after a woman dies in a kind of fracking earthquake. He, of course, wanders into a morass but is too stupid to watch his back. There is a surreal episode when several men smoke something and pass out immediately. Where is this going?

This show has historically gotten off to slow starts, but I am not sure what to make of the setting here. It could be interesting but I hate stoner movies and if we get a lot of drug-induced scenes I doubt I will like it.

I loved the first two seasons.....was excited to see the third....then I started watching it. It is aweful! Like the writers got super high and thought they would like to take us on their acid trip.

Take one of the best casts on TV, add a fascinating story, drop acid, and write a script. Seriously did someone decide that since Sherilyn Fenn , is in the script they needed to go all grade D David Lynch with the script? Three attacking crow scenes in the first two episodes. Three or four hallucinogenic scenes and several scenes where we have to figure out if they exist because the characters are high, or the scriptwriters were high. Confession I am two episodes in and I switched to Peaky Blinders. I was in entertainment heaven before this experience. In one day Peaky Blinders, Goliath , Joker are released. Next week El Camino, and the first reviews for the Irishman are out notching my anticipation to see that film which was already high, way up. I see people are liking the next few episode. I am gonna finish the darn thing I guess. But man, what a fricking mess so far. Any more rooms full of 200 Dennis Quaids doing Elvis impressions and I am outta here. (I have to admit I liked that scene though)

What were they trying to go for this third season?? LSD trips? Warlock doing witchcraft. Im on the fifth episode and I'm still waiting to find out what's going on with the water and WHY the earth opened up and swallowed the man' wife.

Like everyone else, we thought seasons 1 & 2 were great. Excited to see season 3 come out. And then And then we watched it. Episode 1 started strong, but spiraled downward into weirdness that was hard to watch. But, loving Billy Bob Thornton, we ventured into episode 2. And yes, the weirdness continues starting with the crazy ad shown in the beginning. But somehow, this episode goes from weird to boring. The story line somehow gets lost amongst insane characters and psychedelic scenes that have no point. 5 minutes of content and 55 minutes of garbage. I think we're going to skip this season.

I still have more to watch but based on the first episode this season is going to suck. The drug useage and hallucinations, as well as magic, are just too over the top

Fantastic cast, but this entire series has gotten worse each season. Season 1 was fantastic, 2 was very good and 3 (from what I have seen) should never have aired.

They went from an amazing show: well written and acted; good tempo.

This season relies on so many mystical things and a completely different tone.

I believe this is my first review on ANY show or movie and the third season deserves 2 stars while the first is a 9 and second season is 8.2.

I really loved the 1st Season of Goliath. I thought it was one of the best TV series ever. The 2nd season wasn't as good, but wasn't terrible. The 3rd season IS terrible. It's just awful. It's nothing but drug induced hallucination scenes, dream states and other non-sense. If you haven't watched it yet, DON'T! It's a complete waste of time.

Farmers tripping and going all reefer madness - drugging McBride and setting him up for blackmail since he can't remember sh**. Hope this gets past all the weirdness. Like this show and was excited for the new season, like the cast they've brought on, but thought the premise of a bunch of almond farmers tripping on peyote (?) and protecting their interests by drugging an investigator is a little out there. We'll see.

Just watched episode 1 season 3 and not sure I'll carry on. Dennis Quaid doing a poor impersonation of Jack Nicholson. This show has definitely lost it's way. Was really looking forward to this as well. Hey ho. Onto the next.

The first season was great!! The writing in particular. The second season was pure 💩. This is what happens when showrunners think or are subject to inclusivity. The majority of episodes were written by leftist women who suck at penning. And season three starts out the same. Way to ruin a tv show!! Great actors who can't even save this 🤢! Goliath cancelled after 3rd season
