This is a true story

I too am a survivor of the Worldwide Cult. If everyone that had been a member told their story it would end up being weekly episodes for years. The things that went on were things some of us after all these years still don't want to talk about. My anger and hate for this so called religion will be with me till my dying days. There will never be any forgive and forget for me!!!

Plain Truth
shofer-488008 August 2020
I gave this episode a 10/10 just because I wish more people knew the story of WCG and Herbert Armstrong's wide-reaching legacy of abuse. Everything James Swift says in this episode is the plain truth.

The re-enactments do miss the mark though. The minister is depicted as this sinister, dark-spirited dude, and the churchgoers are depicted as a crowd of total whackos. The truth is that Armstrong's church grew rapidly because the environment was welcoming. It was a culture that expected everyone, especially the ministry, to act like they were happy people without any problems. New members would want to be just like everyone at church, so they'd fake it 'til they made it. I think, deep down, everyone knew they weren't perfect and didn't fit in, but opening your mind to that possibility would be opening your mind to demon possession.

Like the other reviewer said, the horrors that went on at WCG could be a whole series to itself. I'm in my thirties and still dealing with the anger I have about that cult, and I didn't get it nearly as bad as Swift got it. It's too bad the afterlife isn't real because Herb deserves a special room in hell.

The Worst Kind of Evil!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode terrified me. Not from anything haunting but of the pure evil in people using religion to mask their horrific torture and rape of innocent boys. I watched many horror movies and shows and nothing is a disgustingly horrifying as bad people! I cried so hard in horror when I saw this. I felt so bad for the boy who was tortured and raped. Thank you for telling your story. No one deserves that torment.

10/10 finally a good episode.

Magnificent. This episode shows the true evil. And it's the people around this cult. The story and the retelling are unbelievably well represented, and I actually had to see it several times. This episode in a series I'm not that hyped for, but this episode does the trick. Would love to see a full and longer film of stories like this. 10/10.

Completely lacking in any sort of supernatural element
smitjef2 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Well in a show pretty awful about good stories this was an all time low with an utter lack of any sort of a ghost element. The closest thing we came to was him hallucinating while he was being tortured. Another story of a kid mad at their parents definitely justified in his case. This was a story for another type of a show but not a ghost/supernatural show.
