He is funny, you are all funny
AkilejnA8 February 2023
I do find it funny how many people here are saying he's not funny Because they can't relate to the things he is talking about, having actually listened to what he said in this special. Did you really watch and listen to it or did you just wanna hate something today?

About the special itself, it was quite clever and he was really good with the audience or the audience was good with him. Some of the jokes seemed to miss a little and maybe he just abandoned them and moved on as a professional. But I did laugh aloud many times.

Not for everybody but you get a sense of who he is and if you like his persona you will find this funny.

Funny quirky show speaks to my heart

So happy Joel Kim Booster has a platform to share his unique perspective with wit, cleverness, style, and ease...without rancor & cynicism. This show was a bright spot in my day & I'm glad I chose it to watch.

Where were the jokes?

I'm sure others will enjoy his sense of humor, especially if you LOVE hypersexualized and gay jokes. But it was a miss for me. After watching the show for nearly 2 hours nothing he said seemed remotely funny or even cause me to break a smile.

Smart But Not That Funny
tkdlifemagazine26 June 2022
I think Joel Kim is very smart and inciteful. His observation humor would be very appreciated if I was sitting at a bar with him or if he was the opening act on a short set for a bigger comedian. He is just not funny enough to command a full Netflix special in my opinion. He is edgy and bold and I applaud that. His interplay with the audience is funny. I think if his honest, self effacing approach is refreshing. This is ok-but just ok.

Real stand up
deniseiyana28 June 2022
As someone who watches a lot of standup, I can say this is definitely a real stand up comedian. Joel delivery is very well timed. The jokes are raunchy but in the funniest of ways and he has great audience interaction and crowd control. Joel plays on the stereotypes of his identities but in a way that is not tiresome. There are jokes he is completely aware will offend some but he tells them anyway. I must applaud a comedy who can l bring a good mix of both old and new school comedy. Will love to see more from Joel.

Not particularly funny

None of his "bits" were really amusing, though some were clever. Seems like people told him he was fun at parties so he decided that he was a stand-up comic.

If it supposed to be edgy, then the "3" is too high a rating.

Glad to see him in netflix. I knew he was going to make it on netflix. I also enjoyed the movie "fire island" which he wrote it and its at disney + .

His head looks big but actually small becuz his body seems quite fit. Anyway he is funny. Enjoyed the show.

Terrible, there are no jokes.
sasha_emperor10 July 2022
I thought this would be funny but this special is the opposite of that. All he does is talk about his observations which are not funny. I feel like if he had real friends they would sit him down and tell him "Bro you're not funny" but that never happened. And because of that this is what we got.

This special is special because it is the most boring $hit I have ever seen.

Work on getting better material next time Joel.

Edgy and maybe niche humour.
eunbi053021 June 2022
Joel divides his act in 3 parts: about himself being an adopted gay Asian; about "White straight people" and; about sexuality.

From the whole set I only liked one of the adopted jokes, I didn't really know him before this special so I don't know if his trademark is being as edgy as his was in here, specially in more taboo themes like masturbation. It is interesting to bring more taboo themes to public, but as he say, and I might be misquoting, "you get to clap and laugh, not only clap", he was either telling a story or interacting with the audience, but it wasn't funny.

His text on itself isn't bad, it seems like he is about showing small outburst of jokes, as in here's one, now here's another, and he does that as he keeps on changing subjects, which is good writing. Unfortunately, the proposal of this special is to be a comedy, and I didn't find it funny, but it doesn't feel, from his material, that he aims to reach all audiences and that's okay, but it won't stop people like me, that aren't his audience, from watching his gig and end up disliking it.

Poor audience that night
valentinacarreno-672181 December 2022
He is so selfcentered, not in a funny way. He needs to know that he is annoying ,please someone talk with him.

I tried very hard to give him a chance but it was imposible. Maybe it would be better for everyone to look for another Job. I have a few ideas... He is rude with the audience and its not funny, actually makes me inconfortable. He is bossy with the camera girl not in a funny way.

His stories about drugs and nudes are basic. So basic. So lame.

Basically, This show is about a guy complaining about everything for 1hour. Its like listen my neighbor. No thanks. Do not waist your time when the re s so many great things to watch on Netflix.

i stopped watching...
stermix50121 June 2022
...when he said "destroy statues and replace them with mobile phone charger points". I dont care about him being asian (i like asian ppl) or gay, but doing a performance on a theater, or watching it is part of being civilized. There is no civilization without history and history is sometimes preserved with statues. So i did as he said: i stopped doing something civilized and went to charge the god dominating our life: my mobile phone.
