Tolu is insufferable
cavanhout19 January 2024
God there is so much victim card playing in this game and Tolu is the absolute worst. We're only 2 episodes in and I'm ready to turn it off. This show could've been a really cool concept but honestly the women (as a fellow woman) totally ruined this show and it's cringey to watch. They're all overly emotional and taking everything wayyyyy too personal. People literally just had to chill and enjoy the beach and it would've been a way more enjoyable experience. The best part of the show is the decisions. If they make a second season you need to have the same genders or at least more trust building exercises in the beginning.

Boohoo I'm poor
ancsdavalos1 February 2024
Man these people all just love making themselves look like victims. It's SO annoying and unattractive. Boohoo, you grew up with nothing. Boohoo you grew up in a trailer park. Boohoo you're an immigrant. No one has the perfect life and it's wrong of you to make someone feel inferior to you just because you THINK you were worse off than they were. Victim mentality is so stupid and so lazy.

If you like shows where people say they're humble, but in reality are greedy snakes, you'd like this show. But it gets on my nerves watching these rude, ignorant, selfish people compete for money, for entertainment.

No humour
dysee12 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The contestants are much too worthy. None have a sense of humour, the women are all so thin skinned and are offended at everything...except maybe Simone. I'm finding the men are much more sympathetic and empathic than the women. The women seem to be just waiting to goff on one at any excuse. The contestants seem to have forgotten that they're playing a game. I wish they'd lighten up, have some fun, they're in a beautiful place and should actually try to enjoy themselves . OK I know that they're being pitted one against the other but they would do better to accept that members of the team are put in impossible situations. I'm ashamed of these women , I would've thought that they could see the bigger picture. So annoying.

Predictable
OzmaO11 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
On the plus side, Brooke Baldwin is very personable and makes a good host. The locale is gorgeous, and the residence is stunning.

On the negative side, a lot of the drama is super predictable from the angry-women-alliance to the showmance to the naive country-bumpkin. There's not much new or exciting to be found here. The games/challenges are designed to stir up trouble, and they do, but how is it in 2024 none of these contestants can figure out how to beat the system?!?! Line people up in order of intelligence or level of loyalty - dude, all you had to do was ask for everyone's middle initial and line them up alphabetically - no hurt feelings!

I dislike all of the contestants and cannot imagine how that group was chosen. When there's nobody to root for, reality shows get super boring, super-fast.

And for any of my fellow females who may have an opportunity to participate in the future - please don't be so predictably shady, please don't joke about using seduction to get ahead in the game, please just have a little more self-respect.

Get over your initial revulsion, and it's really a quite good look into power dynamics
antony-120 January 2024
This show is as well as being an interesting reality format an insight into the self belief that some people have that the world owes them something. And often that is through victimhood.

As a format, the show is intriguing. Clearly riding on the Traitors, but in some ways I find this more interesting as power is very asymmetrical and can be wielded at any time. When it should be wielded, how it should be wielded, who you trust with your decision-making all play a part. The producers are really good at introducing games too which then upset the dynamics, or force things to be revealed and upset the applecart.

As a format to look into power dynamics, it's very intersting and quite addictive.

The contestants, well where to start. This is what will drag down the score for many. I am very curious as to why the producers clearly went for a gender dynamic that has really toxic women, and really quite nice men. They seem to have gone out of their way to get dynamic, to the point where the men come across as unrealistically reasonable, and modern and caring and every woman has an issue. That has to be deliberate.

What worries me is that it will fuel misogyny as it shows a really skewed dynamic between genders.

But we have people like Tolú who weaponises racial matters. She says being African is her identity, wears African colours, wears earings in the shape of Africa, wears a neckale in the shape of Africa that says "Africa" then bullies someone she reduces to "a straight white man" into submission because he referred to her by calling her African.

Lindsay who is what I suspect Americans would call a Karen. Her hostility, her tone, is toxic. She shouts even at the camera. Shouting is her one level and you can imagine you'd park too close to her car and she'd rant at you for 20 minutes. You know the energy from her straight away.

Julie who basically says because she had a tough time in life can basically do whatever she wants because she deserves it and others don't. It's scary seeing the self-justification that goes on to be cruel to others.

And it goes on.

But there are interesting nuances. I find myself at times like Tolú despite her very toxic way at keeping everyone in line through fear. Julie as time goes on you get to understand a bit more, and the dynamics that she's torn between. Nothing is truly black and white and seeing the other contestants grapple with these dynamics is what makes it interesting.

I wish they had a slightly balanced the cast a bit more and not had all the guys as ultra-nice and most of the women as toxic, as that to me will just encourage anti-feminist and misogynistic views.

But I'd say give it a proper go. Episode 3 I think is the low point as the toxcity is at full strength and it's hard to find a way to like these people or the show. But once over that hump, the dynamics get way more nuanced and interesting.

And you may even find yourself kind of liking someone you didn't like just an episode a go.

Lyndsey is the bad seed
xintilla20 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I watch this show because I am fascinated ny people's characters, their actions, their thoughts, their body language. And when it comes to lot of money, true colours are out there. It's not easy to survive such a game, it does not need physical strength or special intelligence, it just relies on loyalty and honesty and staying true to one self.

The worst one is Lindsey. She's bad man! She's weak (her strength comes of feeding of people), she's manipulative, she's toxic, she's paranoid and bad to the core. Its shameful that she was allowed to enter such a show, she's completely unhinged and it shows in the way she behaves.

Interesting concept ruined by the most annoying contestants
amarcell-4698813 January 2024
Great concept, love reality shows like this. Had hopes this one would be as good or as fun to watch at the Squid Game Challenge. But this one quickly (very quickly) becomes unwatchable because of the contestants. Did producers actively seek out the most insufferable, punchable, annoying, narcissistic people they could find? If they did, they succeeded. Especially the women. Angry, bitter, victim crying, manipulative women. A few of the guys seemed nice and honest but were immediately attacked by the angry women for being so. I could not eye roll harder. Major two thumbs way down. Come back with better contestants.

Fun game but needs better contestants!!!
TheWatcher1725 February 2024
The concept of the show itself is interesting and fun, it keeps you watching and wondering what will happen next. However, whoever did the casting for this show needs to be fired. Except for a couple of the people, most of the contestants had egos through the roof and were constantly victimizing themselves and attacking others for doing the very exact thing they were doing themselves. Way too much identity politics that frequently ruined the game. Aside from that, it was a fun watch. I think they need to cast a better mix of people who are good but also people who aren't afraid to get greedy or at least know how to manipulate, take offers, and oust people without getting caught. In this first season, for a game called "a game of greed", it didn't seem like many people got greedy and the focus was more on sharing with the family. I agree with that that concept in real life, but this is a game show lol. Despite the casting, it was an interesting game. I would like to see some more crazier offers presented to the contestants. Hope there will be a season 2.

I Was SO READY TO HATE THIS....but.....
marymcfarland-0186610 January 2024
It's a reality game show. Generally speaking, I don't watch much of that stuff....at least that's the lie I've been telling myself whilst totally watching reality game shows.

I got sucked into this pretty quickly. The premise is simple....be greedy and take it all or be nice and share the wealth. BUT, If everyone were nice, then it wouldn't have much entertainment value. The first 1 1/2 episodes, I was about ready to turn it off because so many of these contestants seemed so utterly unlikable....my opinion changed pretty quickly.

After the end of episode 4, you really kind of get a sense of who these people are and how they are playing the game. Positive points for the incredibly gorgeous scenery. Negative points for encouraging me to like people who are totally unlikable. Recommend if you like reality game shows. It delivers exactly what you would expect.

Interesting premise, but vile women contestants
smga-7544516 January 2024
I thought the idea was intriguing, but something went very very wrong in the casting, specifically with the women. The one woman I thought was a nutter with the non-binary plant, ended up being the most sane of the lot. The rest of the women are truly some of the most vile, entitled, victims I have ever seen. The african-american woman with the short hair is actually from Nigeria as a child. She gets angry that people refer to her as being African, but she literally wears ear rings and necklaces in the shape of African, not Nigeria. The other young woman who looks a little hispanic, is a perfect example of the entitled 20 somethings running around. On top of being perpetually in need of validation. None of these women have any sense of honor to them, it's disgusting to watch them.

I only made it through 2 episodes, I don't know if I can watch more. These people suck.

Loved it
redquicksilver15 February 2024
I do like reality shows and do watch a fair few, and I must say this is one of the best I have seen in a long time. Interesting concept and great characters some of which are very annoying - just makes it even more compelling. There are games to play each episode and usually I find these tedious, but the games are well though out and just add to the tension. The vote out is also tense and very watchable. Some really great characters in the show and a very wide ranging cast they are too, men, women, different backgrounds races, beliefs and wealth all go to make a great social experiment. Sad it is over, and can't wait for the next series!

Good ideas, but not so great cast
chaoszan1 February 2024
If you like other reality shows such as The Traitors, Survivor, The Mole...etc then you may like this show a bit, but be warned the cast isn't that great. The whole premise of this show is that everyone is a winner, and whomever gets to the end gets to split a $250,000 prize. The catch though is that if you chose to vote someone out that means that everyone's cut of the prize goes up due to there now being less people. Also There are things that happen along the way in which the cast can raise the total amount of money or keep more for themselves.

So you're thinking to yourself that sounds like it could make for a great show, but sadly you would be wrong and it all has to do with the cast. Most of the men in the cast act like they have a moral high ground and want to just go to the end with everyone. While most of the women want to get people out so they get a bigger cut of the money. Also none of them are all that interesting character wise. At no point did I ever find myself rooting for anyone. So if you like reality TV shows and you are really really bored you could check this one out, but don't expect anything great out of it whatsoever.

Horrible contestants - Annoying Victimization
corlliana17 January 2024
I agree with the other reviews here. The show provides an interesting concept BUT it is completely ruined by the most horrible and annoying contestants. I watched until episode 5-6 then just dropped it. Some of the contestants were just shady, mean and have horrible personalities which ultimately ruined a promising show. Some are whiney. The women here are cringe-worthy. The producers should have tried to find better contestants with more interesting personalities - not like these people who are catty and self-deprecating. I hate some just cliched up and bully other contestants. Most of them don't deserve the monty at all. Not recommend to watch!

100% scripted
purcealex17 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
First I found it entertainment, but then I realize how scripted this is...and I think the most obvious mistake was when Julie vote for Simone to leave because she wanted to protect, Jake, but in fact Simone was the only one to defend, Jake when he put himself as leader and everybody hated it, so why to eliminate somebody who is basicly on Jake side and yours? The natural vote was to try to eliminate Jay who was against Jake and Julie thought will vote for on, on other side, Jay vote to Simone instead of Jake made sense because Simone confronted her at the table and did agree with Jay about Jake. Second script mistake I say is when Bryce could not keep the secret anymore that he is a millionaire, but also says in the show that nobody knows from real life that he is a millionaire except his mom, like really you can keep this secret in real life from everybody, but you cannot keep it as long as a reality show goes? How stupid is that? Needless to say about cowboy guy who did not take the offer that advantage him, because his integrity is not for sale, really? Aren't you there to win? The idea is good, script is not that terrible but I strongly believe that they made a huge mistake.

Now This Is Reality TV
edwardsjosiah11 January 2024
Only 4 episodes in but I am hooked. Imagine survivor without the physical component. All social game, but like survivor this show does a great job of getting people from different backgrounds and economic classes.

It's also an engaging social experiment. As the audience, we see why people are making the choices they make. To each other it may feel very cut throat, but to the audience we know it was actually a very flippant move or not thought out.

The best part is most of the time people choose to abstain, so someone can be eliminated by JUST ONE VOTE. Never seen anything like it.

Hope it gains traction so we can get a season 2!

It Kept Me Coming Back.....
jimalba-878874 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
...but maybe for the wrong reasons. What a train wreck of a cast! All the boxes are checked here as we have people on the show who wake up every day with the sole purpose of being offended by something...anything. Others exhibit poor behavior and blame it on their own feeling that someone else is surely doing something like they are about to do, so that gives them the right to do it.

Clearly these people were cast because they are trying to be outrageous, but what we got was a cast of professional victims, selfish, entitled, trashy people, and an older woman who is just plain nuts. The men on the show were ok for the most part, one of them has a pretty big ego and has a habit of saying and doing the wrong thing all the time, but there were some really good guys on the show, but they were blamed for all the problems because they are straight, white, men- and we all know they are enemy number 1 these days.

The two African American woman were just horrible. Tolu is a constantly whining victim, who treats people horribly, but expects to be treated like a little dove who needs to be coddled all the time. Winnie is a straight up bully, who was flat out terrible to Julie and Lindsay, but again, she was another "victim" of racism and any other thing she could find to be upset about.

Mostly, I was frustrated by how Tolu and Winnie would do something selfish or wrong, and they would use the excuse that other people were certainly doing the same thing. It's the age old story- you can't trust anyone if you can't trust yourself.

Julie was another terrible human, who only thought of herself at all times, but I will give her credit- she seemed to evolve near the end of the show, but that girl's ego rivals that of LeBron James.

Brian and Gaspare were probably the most likable characters and I thought Brooke Burke was a good host, she has a little tell when you can see she is disgusted with a contestant, and I liked that.

The show is really a good representation of society and all that is right and wrong with it. It was fun and frustrating to watch.

Some of these so-called contestants ruined an interesting concept
FinleyKolapo10 January 2024
What even is this? If this is all genuine and not a horrible script, then many of the contestants are just miserable, reactionary people. The premise is great and interesting, but many of the contestants' actions are nonsensical and annoying.

I don't know if it's edited weirdly or what, but I just don't understand all the rage and "fierce" dialogues in the second episode.

At this point, if someone coughs the wrong way, a certain group of high school bully is going to turn that into a court case, invoke a history lesson on how a cough destroyed Rome, and bully the person who coughed into the ocean.

It's a reality show, so I don't expect much, but I felt like this broke my suspension of disbelief a lot.

Wow!
khairnassim12 January 2024
The Trust is a captivating reality show that places participants in situations where trust is the key to success. I think about one heartfelt conversation, one addressing race and gender, that was emotionally powerful and beautiful, delving into various topics of race and gender. Despite tackling serious issues at times, the show manages to remain entertaining, making it a truly engaging and thought-provoking experience.

Does our shared humanity lead to unity and trust, or do inherent differences spark betrayal? It's a thought-provoking journey into the core of human connections and the dynamics that shape our relationships.

Good reality-TV bridge between Survivor seasons
gridoon202422 February 2024
"The Trust: A Game Of Greed" is "Survivor" with a twist - or, if you prefer, a game of Chicken on the screen. Unlike "Survivor", where the central rule is that a person must be eliminated in every episode, in "Trust" nobody HAS to vote - but if they don't, somebody else might vote against them, and they go home (majority rules, and in this case "majority" can be a single vote). There is a wide diversity of contestants, from the do-gooders to the game-players: Julie stands out as a particularly complex and fascinating character. And because there is no precedent, the players are called upon to invent the "correct" way to play the game on the spot. Even with its faults (including some make-it-up-as-we-go-along twists), this show is much better than Netflix's previous reality-TV experiment, "Surviving Paradise"; I gave that one 4/10, this one gets a 7/10.

Made my blood boil
jau-zeng16 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The premise of this show was great, but the contestants were insufferable. I'm not sure if the producers intended to put the most "I'm the biggest victim" women I've ever seen in a show like this, but oh my god, the small group of featured women were already untrustworthy of the men from episode 1.

I'm 2 episodes in, but I'm not sure if I can continue with this and I'll just go rewatch a few episodes of Below Deck instead cos it's more entertaining.

Btw, Tula is the most victim crying person I've ever seen in my life. On one hand, she will connive and insult people in the back, but then she will claim victim and cry in front of others. I know she's going to be kept on because she's drama inducing.

BIG-TIME SPOILER (MY opinion): DON'T LOOK if you don't want to be affected for the finale!
lakerslove22 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Hey, all

I was turned on to this show by a friend of mine. I'm a huge Big Brother fan, so thought I'd give it a whirl.

Immediately, I didn't care for the cast, but just after the "immediately," I began to feel a certain way. It felt too "over." A couple of the characters were just too characterishy. PLUS, the entire prize package was for--well, at least the base-start--ONLY $250,000...to be split amongst the group. Worse than Fear Factor prize.

That said--opinion SPOILER COMING--I believe this to be one of those shows where everyone is an actor--except for one person. I've not been sure, but now going with Tolu. Went back and forth between Jake and Julie, the "poor" girl. Ended up on Tolu, considering how hard she's had to live and had things taken away from her. Plus, when the host kept adding temptations to the mix at JUST the perfect time--PLUS seeing how "over" the characters were--it was fairly obvious TO ME that it's all somewhat scripted--definitely guided--but still a decent concept. I recall another show (Channel 5?) with the same concept. It tests a person's integrity, character--all that good stuff--until in the end that person is gifted with ALL of the money. Good, because as hard-up as well all are with getting cash--any amount--a game show such as this would have to be a bit more.

Again, I am a Big Brother ultra-fan, so I know quality and somewhat genuine-ity when I see or feel it. This threw me from jump. But, THAT SAID, I can't wait until Wednesday to see Tolu's face.

Could have been GREAT - So much Racism & sexism
kattrambo17 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Every time the white man speaks or does anything, all the women cry that he is WHITE and he is a MAN. It is just horrible that the people on this show are so shallow that all they can see is pigment. It's also sexist. How do people live with such horrible bias' and stereotypes of other people? What if this was reversed and the men just blamed the sex or skin color of the women for all their actions? It is horrible what the world is coming to. I wish they would have found people who could at least get deeper than pigment and sex. Also, I felt like I was watching the victim Olympics also. Everyone was trying to position themselves as the most oppressed. The one lady bragged about being from Nigeria and black, and then when the man complimented her on that, she took OFFENSE TO IT! Then the other girl who thinks she is so hot said she was trying to manipulate the "white man" into liking her so she could use him, and when he didn't put her in the first of the line for "most loyal," she had a FIT... you can tell she has feelings for him... so she is a manipulator and a liar.

These people are just horrible... minus three or four of them. I wish there was a different cast.

The multiple face of the corruption
gabieplay18 February 2024
I know the title of my review is a bit strong, but it is what it is. This reality is excellent to understand the multiple faces of the human being when treating about money. There is the good boys and the mean girls. While the boys are just enjoying the house and thinking everyone is friend, the girls are working on a coalition to get stronger. You'll see women being extremely aggressive since the first date, and along the show they get more cruel and justify their gross for self protection. The thirsty for money is visible, and you'll be surprised with the last move in the last episode. Overall, it's a good show. And in many points similar to Big Brother.

Cool concept not cool contestants
scottbiava19 January 2024
This could end up being a fun show in future seasons but the casting was putrid. I don't think they could have picked worse human beings for this if they tried.

The concept has promise, but I personally couldn't finish this show. Women being horrible people just for the sake of being horrible people.

None of them are interesting, funny, or even just decent. Hopefully when they bring this back next season, they focus less on total diversity and more on contestants that will bring viewers. There's a difference between being a cut throat game player and just a garbage human being. Anyone that watched knows who I am talking about.

Horrible People Playing Games
swpxp18 January 2024
I have to hand it to the producers of this show: they have managed to assemble one of the most vile, hateful, and generally unlikable group of people I could imagine. While the idea of the show is actually very interesting, the choice of contestants is stunning for its level of overt racism, dishonesty, manipulativeness, and just general rottenness. While some of these folks might be ok people outside of this pressure cooker environment, others should never be allowed anywhere near people or animals without a watchful guard present. Tolu in particular is a prime example of the absolute worst of humanity. If that's your kind of thing, you'll love this show.
