3 hours of indulgent prequelitis
lor_30 April 2018
For a few decades Hollywood has been plagued by sequelitis: those numbered follow-ups dating back to the "Rocky", "Exorcist" and "Jaws" series in the 1970s, but this Stills & Mills exercise in campy lesbian porn imitates the Marvel junk that is termed "Origin" stories.

So the team's fantasy "The Turning" has given rise to several spin-offs, this time exploring the antics of Mantis, a revolutionary group that is fighting against the homophobic AWAL organization that has achieved governmental laws against lesbianism in a post-plague dystopian future.

I don't mind the fantasy, but the constant (and stupid) railing here against the straw man enemy is unfunny and hardly thought-provoking, unless you are Mike Pence or some other powerful idiot who hates anyone that doesn't conform. The target audience of Lesbian Porn lovers must be tired of Mills' fake-soapbox scripts by now.

Cassidy Klein begins the cheap derring-do, executed on the level (and budget) of a backyard home movie, as Agent X, ordered by Mantis to recruit for the organization. Later on she has another assignment, and in the sloppy nature of this porn is suddenly called Agent Klein instead, for the duration.

Klein poses as a big Hollywood movie and TV producer, not in porn but mainstream. She uses this ruse to easily bamboozle beauties into having lesbian sex, and converts them to the fold. The original lesbian plague was caused by a tea create by Dr. Elixir and a new drug is introduced here that, you guessed it, causes star Mia Malkova to become telepathic and able to receive women's thoughts as if spoken aloud.

That title gimmick is very poorly used over the course of a way-too-long 3 hour show, called a series but released intact on DVD via the premiere Lesbian label Girlfriends Films. We're treated to some brief video clips from "The Turning", with all the principal stars back in action, and an oddball subplot has two characters of the earlier film being portrayed in one of Klein's fake productions, with Hallie White (Adriana Chechik) from the first movie working as technical adviser, and being the target of Mantis recruitment.

This is an excuse for director Stills by Alan to pop up (not showing his face on camera, as usual for one of his many cameo appearances in other all-female casts) directing the Klein show, and getting to say: "We're making a movie about lesbians, not a lesbian porno!" when the femme cast gets out of hand.

Alan & Bree clearly would love to see their series build a mythos and following in the manner of the Marvel universe or perhaps H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulu Mythos, but they've already prematurely run the dumb concept into the ground with this DVD and its companion piece "Project Pandora".
