Great first episode. I was instantly hooked. Can't wait to continue the series. I love anything with Jeremy Renner and Kyle Chandler. It really sucks that Kyle Chandler only appeared in one episode, but I assume it sets the tone for the remaining episodes.

Warning: Spoilers
I like the show especially the acting and the atmosphere of the city, but they managed to kill a major character in the episode... I didn't expect that especially after all the advertising about him!

Gritty series, corruption permeates the air in Kingstown as destitute men live only long enough to await their imminent demise as street justice is meted out
Ed-Shullivan15 November 2021
Based on this pilot episode

This series has already shown its potential as a top notch crime/drama TV series after just this first episode. Jeremy Renner is a bona fide A-lister film star who signed on to this TV series knowing just how well written it was. It includes a stellar supporting cast of TV and film stars that will allow the series to keep its audience glued to the series episodes each week which I am sure will continue for a few seasons more.

Co-creator and TV and film star in his own right, Hugh Dillon, is quite familiar with the physical location the series was shot which is in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, as he was born in this small town that is best known for housing the Kingston Penitentiary for hard core long term serving criminals.

The series has a real life feel, corruption exists as we all know it exists, but in Kingstown we get to see who is managing the scales of justice. Justice as only street justice exists in Kingstown, and Jeremy Renner who plays Mike McLusky confronts it head first and then dictates how justice will be meted out.

This is going to be the most highly acclaimed crime/drama TV series since the 1999 Sopranos.

Prediction: Multiple Emmy awards over multiple seasons. I can't wait for more episodes to be aired.

Incredible!

I found the 1st episode a bit confusing but that is only because my attention was focused on searching for landmarks & streets in Kingston, Hamilton & Brantford 🤣. I live in Kingston right now so it was nice to see my city on the TV screen. My grandpa worked at that steel mill in Hamilton you keep seeing throughout the series. The series keeps getting better as you go. It's such a true depiction of prison life. I'm looking forward to season 2. It'd be cool if I could get a glimpse of them filming season 2 around Kingston Pen.

There are reality shows and then there is this show. Which is hell lot of realistic at times, you start asking question about what's real and what's fiction. The events and the timelines in which things takes place always took you by surprise. Narrative is very strong so as the characters, every artist justifies his/her role. Screenplay, camera work, background score & yes action are certainly awesome. Finally..! The show could be your this weekends get away.

Rocky Start
douglasmcbroom18 November 2021
Kyle Chandler and Jeremy Renner are two of my favorites. I also like Diane Wiest very much. I thought 'Wind River' (reviewed elsewhere) was terrific and that is a collaboration with Taylor Sheridan (writer director) and Renner, as is this series. So I had high hopes. I rated the premier a Rocky 7, but I'm still hoping for better from this team.

I am not at all a fan of this new trend of killing off one of your stars in the opening episode as shock value. It is the artistic equivalent of bait and switch. I'm also surprised to see that racist CRT is also being taught in prison. That's sort of like preaching to the choir.

But the premise is an original one and Renner is very capable of carrying a series, or movie, so with some solid writing, my hopes remain high.

Not bad

Not a bad start. But if it's meant to be October, then why do all trees all have their green leaves? Was obviously filmed in summer. Can't get past that.

Just dumb!

Warning: Spoilers
So Alberto is sitting in the "Mayors" office, see a hottie, follows her long enough to find out she's a stripper. Pays for a dance, waits for her to get off work, follows her home. SOMEHOW breaks in without the stripper knowing about it. Kills her, finds her husbands "treasure map", doesn't go digging for treasure, but shows up at the "Mayors" office, like he knows the "treasure" is there. Robs the mayor, steals the treasure, goes home and lays down on his couch. Somehow the cops find out who Alberto is even before the mayor's body is cold. The cops go over to Albertos place, and don't arrest him, but murder him. Dumb. Also Jeremy Renner's character says he can't touch Alberto if he gets arrested and goes to prison, but in the very next scene Jeremy says to Milo's associate, "If Milo doesn't like it, I can have him killed in his cell before tomorrow" How come he can kill Milo, but can't touch Alberto. Stupid plot, poor writing. There won't be an episode two for me.

To watch or not to watch

Warning: Spoilers
I decided to try this show when I saw Taylor Sheridan was the creator. I love Yellowstone and 1883, and I enjoyed Hell or High Water and Wind River.

But this first episode has left me with mixed feelings.

I am not one for realism in movies, but the storyline in this episode is kind of ridiculous.

A random guy sees a woman coming out of the "mayor's" office. Later the same guy sees the same woman dancing in a strip club. He follows her home, murders her and discovers a treasure map, which he then takes to the "mayor". The "mayor" hands over the money without hesitation, expecting to live. The murderer shoots the "mayor", so that nobody finds out he took the money, even though he obviously has a criminal record and can be identified with fingerprints. After taking the money, he casually sits on his home couch getting high while the cops get ready to storm his house. And when they go in, he follows their instructions to pick up his gun like he is expecting to survive this.

Genuinely, this was one of the dumbest storylines I have seen in a long time, which is in very high contrast to the main characters and dialog, which seem well written.

I will definitely watch more episodes, but I hope the story gets a bit more sensible.

To much Hollywood.
captonv126 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Pretty good show but the embellishments are getting to be too much, not sure how much I can take. They executed two inmates already in 2 episodes and Michigan doesn't even have a death penalty. The prison scenes, forget about it, all Hollyweird. Guns in the kitchen and the yard, prison guards everywhere in a seconds notice? A good story could be told without all of the extra obscene falsities.

It can get better with a little more reality, the plot is good, the acting is good. Taylor Sheridan is a great writer and story teller, but he needs to get back to realism which will actually improve the flow and the story line.

The Mayor of Bamboozleville
adripinto52615 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My god man. I was so excited for this show because I love Kyle Chandler & Jeremy Renner, so that duo in a crime drama? Sold. Been waiting for this to come out for weeks. About 25min in or so I had a bad feeling, I thought to myself this is too good to be true, they're going to kill Coach Taylor - but I mean he is plastered front and center all over the ads for the show so that plus clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose... I quickly pushed the possibility out of my head. About 15min later, Coach was gone. I'll give it to them that the manner in which it was done was shocking but alas, I was irate. I still am as I lay in bed at 12:25am wondering why they would do such a thing and how i fell for such a booby trap. I'm turned off now. Done with the show. I'm a big Yellowstone fan too so i expected more from the same creator. You let me down Mr. Sheridan. You let me down.

You don't kill a headline star in first episode
james-n-chandler15 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Looked promising, but you falsely advertise a cast and kill off a major star in episode one - don't expect anyone to watch episode two. I had high hopes given how well Yellowstone is turning out, but don't falsely advertise a star of Kyle and only give home 20 minutes.

stop with the f word.
sawznhamrs-16 January 2022
A show or series can have real grit WITHOUT the proliferation of the F word. I doubt I will watch very much of this! The use of the filter in the filming is also a poor crutch for grit.
